ANZ Balanced

ANZ Balanced manages $3.8 billion, making it one of the largest balanced funds in the KiwiSaver market. The fund splits roughly half into growth assets and half into income, with 51 percent in shares and property and the remainder in bonds and cash. That positioning puts it squarely in the middle of the balanced category, where it ranks 26th over the past year and 31st over three years.

International shares dominate the growth side at 35 percent of the portfolio, led by Nvidia at 1.3 percent, Apple at 1.1 percent and Microsoft at 0.7 percent. Australasian shares take 10 percent, with Fisher and Paykel Healthcare and Infratil the largest local holdings. On the defensive side, international bonds account for 29 percent of the fund, more than double the 12 percent in New Zealand government and bank bonds. The top bond position is a US mortgage-backed security at 1.3 percent. Listed property and cash round out the allocation at 3.2 percent and 8.5 percent respectively.

The total fee sits at 0.89 percent annually. Returns have been uneven: 8.5 percent over one year and 8.7 percent over three years, but 4.1 percent annualised over five years. The fund holds a risk level of 4 out of 7.
