ASB Scheme's Growth

ASB's Growth fund charges 0.7% annually and holds $7.1 billion in member money, making it one of the largest KiwiSaver growth options in the country. It sits 2nd in its category over one year with a 12.8% return, and 4th over three years at 14.7% annualised.

The fund splits 77% into growth assets and 23% into income. International shares dominate at 55%, with Nvidia taking the top spot at 3.06%, followed by Apple at 2.36% and Microsoft at 1.51%. The tech concentration is deliberate and heavy. Closer to home, Australasian shares claim nearly 20%, led by Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Infratil and Auckland Airport. New Zealand bonds account for 11.86% of the portfolio, international bonds another 7.63%. A small allocation to commodities includes a 1.47% holding in a physical gold ETC.

This is a high-risk, equity-tilted fund built for long time horizons. The five-year return of 8.2% annualised places it 5th in category, showing solid but not spectacular performance over the longer stretch. The fee sits in the mid-range for growth funds. The fund's scale and relatively concentrated equity positions mean members are backing a handful of large global names and New Zealand infrastructure plays.
