SuperLife NZ Mid Cap

A $7.8 million fund betting entirely on New Zealand's second-tier companies, with more than half its holdings concentrated in just ten stocks. SuperLife NZ Mid Cap puts 100 percent of its assets into Australasian shares, almost all of them domestic mid-caps, from electricity generator Mercury and fibre network Chorus at the top to logistics firm Freightways and retirement village operators Summerset and Ryman further down. This is a pure play on the middle ground of the New Zealand stock exchange, where infrastructure, property and utilities dominate the mix.

The fund charges 0.59 percent in total annual fees, including a 0.1 percent performance fee. It delivered 19.1 percent over the year to the data point, but the longer view is more subdued: 8.4 percent annualised over three years and 3.1 percent over five. The risk level sits at 6 out of 7, reflecting full exposure to equities with no diversification into bonds or international markets. With nearly all capital in a handful of mid-sized New Zealand companies, this is a concentrated, domestically focused equity fund built for investors willing to accept both the volatility and the narrow scope that come with that structure.
